About us

In Barnet we have more than six hundred Volunteers who do voluntary work of their choice. There are only two rules:-

  • Volunteering must be fun - there's no point if you don’t like it.
  • Volunteering must be free.

RSVP Mission Statement

  • RSVP believes that everybody has something positive to offer
  • RSVP provides opportunities to people over 50 to  volunteer
  • RSVP provides services to the community through volunteering
  • RSVP believes that volunteering is of great benefit to the volunteers themselves

The organisation is volunteer led, and everything that we do is what the volunteers want to do, from swimming with the disabled to helping in local theatres. You can find out more about our activities here.

We have several projects of our own and several that are in partnership with other local organisations. We do not care where our volunteers work as long as they enjoy what they are doing.

There are many reasons why people join RSVP - one could be that they want to make friends and belong to a group : for this reason we hold a very informal meeting once a month in the Chipping Barnet Library, when members can keep up to date with our activities and meet their friends. Because our volunteers are not always able to come to our meetings, we also produce a monthly newsletter which is widely circulated to our members and supporters.

We have no paid staff and are fortunate to have been supported financially by Barnet Council and also by some local trusts, charities and local groups who are sympathetic to our work, mainly in education , in feeding the homeless, in working with people with disabilities, and in support for the elderly housebound.

Several of our members have been nominated and received awards for helping in the local community.
